Fashion trends you CAN wear if you’re over 60 – with inspiration from Jane Fonda and Helen Mirren

Age is only a number, so who says you can’t follow the latest trends? Jumpsuits are a versatile must-have, especially if you’re looking for an alternative to a dress – take a leaf out of Jane Fonda’s style book and try a sleeved design with a cinched belt.

And if you think leopard print is too Bet Lynch, think again. Our own Prime Minister Theresa May loves to inject a bit of animal print into her own wardrobe, with her signature kitten heels.

If you’re worried the latest clothing crazes will have you looking like mutton dressed as lamb, take inspiration from these rather stylish celebrities, who are all over 60.

Formal Meals and Towering Cakes: The Top Wedding Food Trends for 2017

When trying to recall the hazy dinners of weddings past, images of dreary seared salmon or overcooked steak drenched in a port wine glaze usually spring to mind. Yet with caterers adopting trends like tasting menus and interactive activities at meals, brides and grooms are offered more choices than ever on the food front. Here, a look at the top trends in wedding food for 2017.

Keep it small
Tiny, composed passed dishes, known as “roaming buffets,” are popping up all over. “It’s a way for guests to fully integrate into the event and not be segregated by tables. Roaming buffets keep the flow of the event moving and energetic,” says Kathleen Schaffer of the hospitality company Schaffer. “We have done several weddings recently with interactive stations, where chefs create small, composed plates served with cocktail forks, as well as passing them. Rather than tucking into a whole plated entrée, couples are opting for more choices and variety in menus.”

“Couples are way more educated and adventurous with their menus,” says Carla Ruben, president and creative director of Creative Edge Parties. “In past years they would come with tons of pictures of wedding dresses and flowers. Now they come with photos and menus from their favorite restaurants and traveling experiences. This creates a version of tapas or tasting menus that are specifically curated around their personal experiences together.”

Formality is back
If you’re thinking about family style—last year’s most popular wedding service option—think again. “There definitely is demand for a more tailored and elegant approach to food service at the actual wedding. Brides are opting for a preselected served dinner versus a more casual family-style dinner,” says celebrity wedding planner Colin Cowie. (If you really want the family-style feel, Cowie suggests doing it for the rehearsal dinner.)

“The rustic presentation is losing its luster. This summer, we definitely have seen a movement away from mason jars, wood planks, craft paper, naked cakes, and hair wreaths,” says Schaffer. “Chic, elegant tablescapes and more refined menus with clean presentations seem to be the next trend. A return to elegance and sophistication is always inevitable among trendsetters.”

And while tradition seems to be reigning supreme, traditional bread service is waning. A movement toward menu-specific alternatives, such as popovers, Brazilian chewy cheese rolls, specialty cracker breads, and pretzel rolls, is on the rise, says Napa-based caterer Paula LeDuc.

Finally, guests aren’t the only ones dressing for the occasion. Catering staff attire has been elevated as well. “Think beautiful cognac leather bow ties for an event in Jackson Hole or coordinated knitted scarves for a winter wedding in Aspen and vintage chambray aprons for a rustic wood-fired feast in the Hudson Valley,” says Lisa Vorce, owner and creative director of Lisa Vorce Co. “The staff are styled to complement the overall aesthetic of the event and create an even more memorable experience for guests.”

The death of the food truck
“The food truck has certainly seen its day and was fun and novel while it lasted,” states Cowie. “I am a big believer in keeping the party moving. Once the dance floor is in high gear, keep it going. The idea of sending guests to a destination for food will certainly empty the dance floor and negatively affect the energy of the party.”

Instead, Cowie suggests bringing food carts or trays directly to the dance floor to pass late-night bites. “We find our brides and grooms love everything from sliders wrapped in custom papers to fresh-made pizza in personalized mini pizza boxes. A good bacon and egg on a mini croissant or french fries are also always a hit. If you want something down-to-earth, serve gourmet tater tots or mac and cheese. Or, if you want to up the style, serve miniature pairings: a grilled-cheese sandwich with tomato soup or milk and cookies. Just remember that after a night of drinking and dancing, the guests’ diet really is not an issue—they will eat anything decadent at that stage!”

Sustainable, local, raw
The farm-to-table movement taking the restaurant world by storm has also trickled into the wedding industry. “People are much more food savvy, eating healthier and desiring local farm–cultivated ingredients,” LeDuc says. Whereas couples used to insist on organic ingredients, now they want to know the provenance of the ingredient, Cowie says. “Which farm does it come from? Is it local? Is the egg from this morning?”

Vegan and vegetarian options are now elevated to the main event rather than a substitution option. “Without doubt, we are seeing more brides and grooms feature vegan options versus vegetarian. The vegan movement is well on the way, and most top restaurants today now offer a vegan menu. Vegan used to mean the grilled portobello mushroom; today’s chefs are preparing exquisite and delicious vegan options,” Cowie says.

Sometimes couples even go so far as to hand most control over to the caterer and wait until a week or two before the wedding, allowing the chef to riff off what’s best in season. “Our clientele defer to us on a very seasonal menu, leaving a finalized menu till the last moment so that they can have the best of what’s coming from our local farms,” says Jamie Schmones Erickson of Poppy’s Catering in Brooklyn.

Earthy, clean cocktails
Incorporating botanicals like rosemary or sage into cocktails is “certainly on trend,” says Ruben. “We recently designed a bar basing each of the classic cocktails around a twist using fresh herbs. My personal favorite was a chive-infused gin and tonic that we garnished with the chive blossoms. It was refreshing, herbaceous, and stunning.”

Pre-ceremony beverages have also become more specialized and location specific. “For a hot summer wedding in Lake Como, for example, serve Aperol spritzes or iced espresso macchiatos,” suggests Vorce.

And consider incorporating herbs in other creative places outside of the bar as an interactive way to ensure your guests engage with the food. “Just this summer, we created a centerpiece using hundreds of stems of fresh herbs. Each guest was given a small pair of scissors at their place setting and was encouraged to cut off pieces of the centerpiece and add them to their salads,” says Ruben.

Big is back
As couples shy away from rustic and casual, it seems like elegance is once again on the rise. “Brides and grooms are looking for a more polished and refined product. The same thing is happening in the cake world. No more naked cakes or cupcake towers or even pyramids of macaroons. The tall, elegant, and imposing iced cake stands tall again,” Cowie says. Tall cakes also make for the best photo ops, says Schaffer.

Celebrity The Hottest Trends Spotted This Season

Want to know what are the coolest trends this season? Look no further than your favourite celebrities for inspiration. From Rihanna and Selena Gomez to Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid, these stylish stars sure know how to start and rock a trend. So, when it comes to injecting your own wardrobe with some on-trend elements, there’s no better place to look. Coloured Puffer Jackets

Winter is here and, as such, investing in outerwear is a must. Thankfully, you don’t have to sacrifice style to stay warm this chilly season. Big, bold, and seriously insulating, these cool jackets will keep you completely comfortable and chic all winter long. Pop Colour Wide Leg Trousers

Celebrities love statement looks and eye-catching ensembles. As such, it’s no surprise that pop colour, wide-leg pants are trending heavily this season. Bold both in colour and shape, these unmissable trousers are ideal for standout outfits. While you may not have any red-carpet events coming up, you can easily try this trend for yourself as part of a contemporary evening look. To keep things completely current, choose from on-trend colours, such as red, pink or warm brown. Then, pair your wide-leg trousers with a top in either a matching colour or a complementary hue. Just remember to keep your silhouette rather simple on top to allow the shape of your pants to take centre stage.

Winter Crop Tops

Stars like Selena Gomez and the Hadid sisters love their crop tops so much that they’ve decided to take them into winter. It may not be the most practical trend of the season, but it is one of the chicest. To rock a winter crop top like a star, all you need to do is pick the right type and pair it with the right items. Start by selecting a crop top that’s long sleeved, high-neck or both in a seasonally appropriate fabric, such as a ribbed knit. Then, partner your winter crop top with high-waisted pants or jeans and a thick or oversized jacket or a coat. Doing so will help to keep you warm while still allowing you to bare a stylish sliver of midriff like your favourite celebs.

Red Jumpers

These chic stars can show you how to rock the fiery hue with a fashionable edge. All you need to do to channel their hot style is invest in a red jumper. Whether it’s a loose knit, turtleneck or sweatshirt, a bold, ruby, crimson or candy red jumper can add a seriously on-trend touch to your winter wardrobe. To keep your red look A-list approved, make sure that your red jumper is the standout piece of your outfit. To do so, just pair it with neutral hues, such as black, white or cream.

Statement Sequin Dresses

Do you have an event coming up where you need to “wow”? A-list stars like Florence Welch know precisely what you should wear. A statement sequin dress is a perfect option for when you need an evening outfit that’ll impress everyone around. The dress is sure to create an eye-catching ensemble that’ll turn heads and make you the centre of attention. So, if you’re ready for such a bold look, choose an all-over sequin style in a chic metallic hue. While gold and silver are always winning choices, less expected colours, such as pink, can make a daring alternative. As sequins offer a lot of texture and weight, opting for a well-fitted design or short style is also a good idea and will achieve a more flattering and balanced appearance.

Spotted on celebs like Selena Gomez and Rihanna, band T-shirts are popping up everywhere at the moment. So, if you want to create a comfortable outfit with an injection of punk personality, look no further than this classic garment. Whether you like Guns N’ Roses, the Rolling Stones or some upcoming underground band, be sure to buy a T-shirt featuring their name and logo for a winning wardrobe item in 2017.

Instead, celebs, such as former pop icon and now designer, Victoria Beckham, are rocking the feminine colour from head to toe. Now, it’s your turn to try the trend for yourself. To nail the look, you can either choose to wear matching shades of pink or carefully mix different tones. For a simple outfit with an eye-catching appeal, consider rocking a pair of pants and a jacket in the same shade with a top in a different hue. The result will be a coordinated ensemble that feels fresh and fashion-forward.

Sydney’s A-list celebrities reveal what fashion trends they will wear this spring, summer

AS David Jones sent the latest designer looks for spring and summer down the catwalk last night, Sydney’s A-list have revealed what will be hot in their closet once the weather warms up.

Top Aussie models Bridget Malcolm, Shanina Shaik, Jessica Gomes and Jesinta Franklin led a catwalk parade featuring a flurry of ’80s silhouettes, bright tropical prints, Victoriana inspired-lace, high necklines, soft pinks and bold reds.

And while the trends were all warmly received, some of Sydney’s most famous faces talked about the new styles they were keen to champion — although some admitted they might not embrace all the key looks of the new season.

Today host Sylvia Jeffreys said she would not dare don some of the sky-high heels she saw walking the runway — and usually ditches the heels in summer.

“As a faithful ugg boot wearer, I’m embracing the return of the flats,” Jeffreys told The Daily Telegraph. “I’m tall. I have 11.5-size feet so I love a flat.”

Shoe designer Terry Biviano hopes to experiment with more colour this summer and has her eye on some of the one-piece swimsuits paraded last night.

“I’m definitely done with black but it’s always in fashion, which is hard,” she said.

“I like a bikini but one-pieces are in. I should be wearing a one-piece after having children, I’m glad they’re having a moment.”

Actor Teresa Palmer is also hoping to branch out into some of the bold fruity patterns she saw last night.

“My go-to is black or white so this summer I’m going to put in some colour, some peaches and lemon,” she said. “I need to be more comfortable in colour.”

While the men on the catwalk showcased bold tropical prints and bright colours, Bachelor Matty J said he’s prefers to stick with what he knows.

“I’m very traditional and even in terms of colour schemes,” he said. “I’m going to wear blacks, white greys and that’s it.”

Former Sydney Swans player Adam Goodes said a recent European summer holiday had made him rethink wearing budgie smugglers.

“I definitely won’t be rocking speedos in summer,” he said. “I wear short boardies, something comfortable.”

The parade which showcased 230 looks from 40 brands was the last to be held in the iconic On Seven room on level seven of the brand’s flagship Elizabeth St store, before the store undergoes a $200 million refurbishment.

More than 330 A-list fashion and celebrity guests attended the launch.

Top summer hair and make-up celebrity trends

We’ve seen a lot of crazy beauty fads come and go lately, but there are a few wearable ones that have become hallmarks of summer 2017.

Celebrities like Katy Perry, Kristen Stewart and Emily Ratajkowski have helped propel platinum pixie cuts, orange eyeshadow, here-today-gone-tomorrow bangs and more into the season’s top beauty trends.

The popularity of the looks are showing no signs of slowing down, so now is the perfect time to give one (or more) of them a try.

For real? Vanessa Hudgens, 28, is the most recent celebrity to take to Instagram to show off faux bangs

One set of fringe, two ways: Jennifer Yepez gave Emily Ratajkowski, 26, fake bangs when her hair was both down and pulled back

Thanks to hairstylists like Jennifer Yepez and Jen Atkin, clip-in bangs were the must-have accessory during the Cannes Film Festival in May.

The hair pros used them to transform the manes of stars like Lily Collins, Emily Ratajkowski and Salma Hayek.

In June, Jen accented Bella Hadid’s blunt bob with yet another set of faux fringe for the CFDA Awards, and Jennifer brought back Emily’s thick bangs during Paris Couture Week in July.

The real deal: Sofia Vergara, 45, cut her fringe for real back in July

Since then, the clip-in style has also been spotted on Cara Delevingne and, most recently, Vanessa Hudgens.

The only A-lister to make a permanent bang change this summer has been Sofia Vergara, who cut hers in July and hasn’t been seen without them since.

If you’re not ready to try fringe for real, try Hairdo Effortless Clip-In Bangs ($26.50, qvc.com) or True by Ellen Wille Clip-In Bangs ($384, wigs.com). You may want to take them to your stylist to have them cut or dyed to match your natural hair.

If there has been one defining haircut of the summer, it’s been the platinum pixie.

Ever since Cara Delevingne shaved her head for her role in the film Life in a Year back in April, multiple stars have followed suit, opting for the slightly longer, grown-out version Cara has been sporting lately.

During the Chanel Couture Show in Paris in July, for example, attendees Cara and Katy Perry were practically indistinguishable from each other.

Kristen Stewart and Zoe Kravitz have also taken the platinum plunge in recent months.

If you’ve been considering joining the club, celebrity hairstylist Mara Roszak, who works with Cara says, ‘DO IT!’

Once you’ve gone the bleached route, protect your color – and your hair – with products like It’s a 10 Haircare’s Five Minute Hair Repair For Blondes mask ($21, itsa10haircare.com) and John Frieda Sheer Blonde Brilliantly Brighter Shampoo and Conditioner ($10 each, ulta.com).

Orange eyeshadow has been trending for a while, but it has recently reached peek color status due to stars like Jourdan Dunn, Selena Gomez, Chloe Grace Moretz, Zendaya and more.

So what’s with the newfound crush on orange? Lucy Hale’s make-up artist Kelsey Deenihan explained it to Femail this way: ‘We have the smoky eyes, and a lot of times you see them done in jewel tones or the bronze smoky eye, but the new colors, like orange, are a fun way to give a new take on a classic eye.’

The proliferation of palettes built around the shade certainly don’t hurt, either. The Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette ($54, sephora.com) and MAC Girls Palette in Mischief Minx ($39.50, nordstrom.com) make it easy to play around with the bold hue.

Like seemingly everything ’90s, pin-straight hairstyles are back.

One need not look further than the Kardashian-Jenner clan for proof. Kim Kardashian West, Kendall Jenner and Khloe Kardashian have all shown an affinity for sleek strands lately.

Kendall regularly wears her long bob parted down the middle and stick straight, oftentimes the work of stylist Jen Atkin.

All in the family: Khloe's sisters Kendall Jenner (pictured), 21, and Kim Kardashian West, 36, have also stepped out with stick-straight, high-gloss manes in the past few months

Jen also provided the impetus for Khloe to take the trend for a spin when she cut the Kardashian sister’s hair into a chin-length bob on Monday. Shortly after, fellow hair pro Justine Marjan gave the cut a ‘super straight and ’90s’ style.

And less than week ago, Chris Appleton gave Kim a waist-length, high-gloss style.

To copy the look, bust out your flat iron (we like Amika The Antidote Silk Wrap Styler, $150, sephora.com). Just don’t forget a heat protectant (try Jen’s Ouai Smooth Spray, $26, theouai.com) and shine serum (pick up Tresemmé Keratin Smooth Shine Serum, $5, target.com).

From Megan McKenna to Charlotte Crosby: Celebrity lip trends and how to achieve them

Megan McKenna poutsMegan McKenna has confirmed she’s had lip fillers [Megan McKenna/Instagram]

A vast selection of famous ladies, who have graced our screens on shows such as The Only Way Is Essex and Geordie Shore, have made no secret of the fact they’ve gone down the path of Dermal Fillers to achieve their desired look.

But with an ongoing influx of people deciding on cosmetic procedures, many still worry about the safety, look and ongoing feel of lip fillers.

Leading Harley Street practitioner Rupesh Shah has spoken exclusively to OK! Online about the safety of turning to fillers to achieve a certain look – and has unveiled exactly how to do so as naturally as possible.

“I always make sure my patients have a realistic expectation about their treatment and end result,” Rupesh – who opts for Juvederm fillers on his clients – revealed. “With Dermal Fillers in the lips, I always start very slowly for someone who is having the treatment first time.”

Chloe Goodman reveals she has had lip fillersChloe Goodman reveals she has had lip fillers [Chloe Goodman/Instagram]

At Rupesh’s clinic, clients are taken through an initial screening process to ensure it is safe to go down the Dermal Filler route. Once the client is completely happy and spoken through exactly what is desired, the pain-free process of injecting begins, taking only around 20 minutes to complete.

When it comes to a philosophy, Rupesh works by the words “less is more” to ensure work won’t look overstretched and overdone – a main worry for those who turn to cosmetic enhancements.

“The dreaded duck lip or trout pout is usually as a result from overfilling the lips,” he added. “Personally I limit my patients treatment to one syringe at a time.

“It’s never a problem to add more, but you never want to be in a position where we need to start dissolving what we have already put in.”

Kylie Jenner poutingKylie Jenner was one of the first celebs to make lip fillers popular [Kylie Jenner/Instagram]

Rupesh also confirmed there are definitely other options in which to achieve a plumper pout – which doesn’t necessarily have to involve needles.

He continued: “The company Caci does a treatment which utilises their Wrinkle Comb and red LED light therapy with their Lift Peptide Complex to instantly plump the lips. This only lasts a very short time compared to dermal fillers.

“There are a variety of topical lip plumpers on the market, all claiming to boost volume and give an instant “bee stung” look. The main ingredient in these products is capsicum which causes temporary redness and swelling.”

And Rupesh reiterates that although fillers can last for months, that there is always the option to remove them if unhappy.

Charlotte CrosbyCharlotte Crosby has confessed to having lip fillers [Charlotte Crosby/Instagram]

“The most common reason for dissolving your Dermal Fillers would be if the patient is unhappy with the results because the dermal fillers are injected too superficially leaving behind a lump or a bluish tint.

“People usually worry about ‘what if i don’t like my lips?’. A lot of people feel the the dermal filler treatment is irreversible. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, allowing you to modify your results.”

SUMMER 2017 BEAUTY TREND: ORANGE EYESHADOW

SUMMER 2017 BEAUTY TREND: SLEEK STRANDS

Sarah Hyland’s Favorite Trends | POPSUGAR Fashion

First up? Pretty detailing. Romantic, feminine features like strappy accents, ruffles, and bows are big on Sarah’s radar.

“Ruffles are back!” she said. “They’re so fun and flirty, and I wanted to incorporate them in subtle ways that are wearable for the Candie’s girl. We have this great red dress with cold-shoulder sleeves overlaid with soft ruffle detailing, so it’s really a two-in-one punch! Everyone loves a good ruffle and a cool sleeve to show a little peek of skin!”

Another way she suggests getting in on the sleeve action is with flirty lace.

“I love our Candie’s black moto jacket with full black lace sleeves because it adds feminine touch to a traditionally edgy moto jacket,” she noted. “Fall is that time of year when you can never really figure out what to wear because the weather is all over the place, so the lace sleeves are also the perfect detail to make the jacket a great transitional piece. You can throw it over anything!”

Retro beauty trends are making a comeback

Some of the major beauty trends in the 90’s are making a huge comeback in the spotlight. More celebrities are going into that funky and grungy look that was so popular some decades ago. Among these trends are the shimmering lids and lips, and exciting hair do’s.

To prove this theory, Brit Plus Co reported that Lisa Frank pajamas are in fact already at Target, while the Clearly Canadian is once again a favorite. And yes, Hulu will begin to air some of our favorite sitcoms from the past!

Hello glassy lips, goodbye matte!

In the 90’s, a shiny #Lip Gloss was a major thing. High-shine formulas were so sought after until the matte lipstick made its way into the mainstream.

However, matte finish is slowly dying. In the premiere of “47 Meters Down,” Mandy Moore was seen in with a highly reflective lip gloss. Even Selena Gomez was seen sporting a shimmering lacquer lip gloss in her music video for “Fetish.”

Ironically, the vampy lips are also making a huge comeback. These dark hues seem to reflect the different moods the user wants to project. One celebrity who dared to bring back this trend is Taylor Swift when she marched on the red carpet on the Met Gala. During the Paris Fashion Week, Karlie Kloss was also seen wearing a fierce brown lipstick which gave her a time travel look from the 90’s.

We are back to hair clips and hair wraps

The 90’s hair clips are so in, thanks to Bella Hadid. In her Instagram, she was seen wearing those shiny clips to clasp those bangs.

In fact, her get up of baby tees and ripped, lightly washed jeans made her she just stepped out from Delia’s catalogue.

Ladies can make a statement with the resurrected hair wraps. On the premiere of “Kidnap,” Halle Berry was seen in stylish hair wrap with strings, and little gold hoops. As this trend slowly makes its way today, one can be as creative as she wants to be using modern accessories, monochromatic embellishment or simply pop it with colors to match.

One hair trend that is making a huge comeback is crimped hair. It once lost its appeal when the tousled, wind-blown, beachy manes became popular. Several celebrities were seen wearing a uniform hair bends like Kate and Ashley Olsen, Bella Thorne, and Gigi Hadid.

Worth mentioning as well that is making its way from the past is frosty and silver makeup for the eyes. The shimmering silver eyeshadow was brought back to life by “Made Men” Jessica Pare, and “The Bachelorette” Rachel Lindsay.

Kim Kardashian West Combines All the Summer’s Boldest Trends in One Look

Kim Kardashian West has kept her summer wardrobe playful. In New York, the television star mixed vintage Raf Simons and Gucci with low-key staples from Adidas, while in Los Angeles, she elevated the simple legging for cocktail hour with a glossy, metallic finish. Last night in California, Kardashian West, out to grab pizza with friends, married several of the season’s most daring trends—long denim shorts, the fanny pack, swimwear as outerwear—for an ensemble that was inspired yet approachable.

Keeping things sleek, Kardashian West opted for a slimming bodysuit. This is a look that the beauty entrepreneur tested this spring and while summering in the Hamptons in 2014. However, instead of the dark palette, Kardashian West went light, offsetting her light wash denim cut-offs with a tank style suit. The long denim short, popularized by millennial model Bella Hadid, was a distressed foil to the polish of Kardashian West’s top. Amping up the casual vibe was Gucci’s retro fanny pack, while strappy metallic sandals and gold jewelry provided the finishing, Midas touch.

But sometimes, celebrities influence baby-name trends without even making the decision to choose the unique names themselves. Stars like Ansel Elgort, Niall Horan and Saoirse Ronan, for instance, have launched a wave of choices simply by possessing the monikers themselves.

Ever wanted to dress up like a celebrity? Or maybe you wanted to own attire, which you recently saw someone wearing but didn’t know where to get it from? Artificial Intelligence is the technology you need. This tool identifies your clothes and finds the place where you can buy it from.

Gurgaon-based start-up Staqu Technologies Pvt. Ltd is redefining image search through AI. Launched in 2015 by Co-founders Anurag Saini, Chaitan Rexwal, Pankaj Sharma and Atul Ra, the start-up utilizes state-of-the-art deep learning technologies to provide precise, reverse image search solutions.

The search engine is designed to retrieve exact matches from the indicated database for an input image. Various algorithms like content, color, shape and texture are extracted and fused together to provide visual search solutions for various e-commerce businesses in the field of fashion, housing, medicine etc.

In a chat with Entrepreneur India, Atul Rai, also the CEO of Staqu explained how AI is making fashion images searches simpler.

“Over 70 per cent of the content of e-commerce sites is images. Very few companies like Google, Microsoft and Facebook are using AI in images. Every company, be it an original equipment manufacturer (mobile companies) or e-commerce, is generating certain kind of data. We are trying to extract information from that image data and decode it for different purposes,” Rai said.

AI Image Search

Rai said most people don’t find a product similar to what they have seen on TV or found someone wearing it, in the market. Using this technology, one can actually spot the same outfit online at a different price.

“Let’s take the example of the e-commerce space. Suppose you want to buy an attire which an actress owns, it’s difficult for you to get the same as human brain can’t  describe the design in words. This is where the role of image data comes into play. You can take a picture of the dress you want and find out a similar dress based on the pixel information instead of text information,” he stressed.

Rai’s start-up is selling the technology to e-commerce companies and mobile phone brands to integrate the same within the mobile phone camera.

“We have joined hands with a company that has launched cell phones called Karbonn Fashion Eye and Aura Note2 which use our image search feature. We are also working with smartphone brands like Intex and Panasonic,” he added.

How Staqu Knows a Particular Brand

Elaborating the role of AI in Staqu , Rai stressed that image search was not the only segment in which they are working right now. The start-up is offering various services like visual search, automated meta-tag generation, visual recommendation, real time video processing etc.

“If you go to Flipkart and look for any dress of a particular brand, the brand name is a text which has to be there. For that, a lot of companies are putting human curators, and it is turning out to be very costly affair. As for every product you have to put some tags for the ease of searching them. This is where AI services are required, where you just have to upload the image and start generating relevant tags for that particular product,” he said.

Rai concluded by sharing a useful advice to aspiring entrepreneurs, who are looking to lead the race in the artificial intelligence segment. “To start something in AI one should have skill and experience because you need to have the knowledge of understanding the  type of technology that can solve a specific issue,” he said.
